Spanish wanted to be more European, and moving to the Euro was going to bring that. The truth is that Spanish social and political scene hasn't changed much. Becoming a republic with a left-winged govern would definetely make Spain a more European country.
why a republic?
Because there can't be a head of state named by a murderer and a dictator, Franco. He and his family are very rich while the 30% of the country is in risk of poverty, and those same citizens are the one paying their luxuries.
